Email - Good Manners - Emoticons
Area: Electronic Mail Background When using Electronic Mail systems it can sometimes be a little bit tricky to get your message across. Remember people reading your messages will only see the words. They can not see your face or hear your voice. Two things that form an essential part of our normal human communications. For example irony and sarcasm usually come across as seriously meant, offensive or even stupid. So how do we deal with this? Answer Firstly we suggest you read your messages carefully before you send them. Like the wise businessman who writes his correspondence at night, then reads it in the morning before sending it. Secondly you may like to try using smileys or emoticons to add feeling to your e-mail. A list of common smileys appears below.
Another common way to express in email is to type all in CAPITAL LETTERS. This means you are shouting at someone. Remember you can find this and other useful technical tips under "Member Services" at http://www.tech2u.com.au. They make a great read :-)
