Blocking Incoming Spam

Area: Electronic Mail
Topic: Blocking Incoming Spam

Background

When an email message arrives on the TECH 2U mail servers the sender is checked against a known list of "spammers". These are people that repeatedly send out large quantities of unsolicitored bulk emails. Typically "porn" or "get rich quick" type messages. If a message arrives from one of these people the servers are instructed to discard the email message. On a typical week our servers trash between 50-100,000 junk email messages of this kind.

If a message arrives from someone who is not identified as a "spammer" but the message still looks like "spam" the mail server will pass the message onto the customer after placing the word {SPAM} in front of the subject line.

This allows the customer to set their own computer to delete these types of messages should they wish to.
