Deleting Files and Folders You can delete a file OR folder using any of the methods listed below.
Note that when you delete a folder, all the contents of that folder are deleted as well.
Method One
- Select the file or folder to be deleted. We will select the file Black Thatch.bmp from the Picture Files I folder.
- Select File/Delete. The following dialog box will appear on your screen.
- Click on Yes.
- The file will be deleted.
- Use the same method to delete Blue Rivets.bmp and Bubbles.bmp. Use the CTRL key to select these files.
Method Two
- Select the file or folder to be deleted. We will select the file Circles.bmp.
- Press the Delete key. The following dialog box will appear on your screen.
- Click on Yes.
- The file will be deleted.
- Use the same method to delete Forest.bmp and Gold Weave.bmp. Use the SHIFT key to select these files.
- Use the same method to delete Metal Links.bmp and Red Blocks.bmp from the Picture Files II folder. Use the CTRL key to select these files.
- Use either method to delete the folder Picture Files I. Notice that the message in the dialog box changes to the one shown below.
This is because deleting a folder also deletes the contents of the folder, in this case the file Houndstooth.bmp.
Method Three
- Restore and/or resize the Windows Explorer window so you can see the Recycle Bin in the Folders pane or on the Desktop.
- Select the file or folder to be deleted. We will select the file Pinstripe.bmp from the Picture Files II folder.
- Drag the file into the Recycle Bin. The recycle bin must be blue before you release the mouse button. The following dialog box will appear on your screen.
- Click on Yes.
- The file will be deleted
.- Use the same method to delete Sandstone.bmp, Setup.bmp and Stitches.bmp. Use the SHIFT key to select these files.
- Use the same method to delete Straw Mat.bmp and Triangles.bmp from the Picture Files II folder. Use the CTRL key to select these files.
- Use any method to delete the folder Manipulating Files Practise. Note that this also deletes the folder inside it (Picture Files II) and its contents.
