Deleting Files and Folders
You can delete a file OR folder using any of the methods listed below. Note that when you delete a folder, all the contents of that folder are deleted as well.
Method One
- Select the file or folder to be deleted. We will select the file In the Hall of the Mountain King.RMI from the RMI Files folder.
- Select File/Delete. The following dialog box will appear on your screen.

- Click on Yes.
- The file will be deleted.
- Use the same method to delete the files from Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.RMI to Mozart's Symphony No. 40.RMI. Use the SHIFT key to select these files.
- Use the same method to delete Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No.3.RMI and Beethoven's Fur Elise.RMI. Use the CTRL key to select these files.
Method Two
- Select the file or folder to be deleted. We will select the file Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.RMI.
- Press the Delete key. The following dialog box will appear on your screen.

- Click on Yes.
- The file will be deleted.
- Use the same method to delete Chimes.wav and Chord.wav from the WAV Files folder. Use the SHIFT key to select these files.
- Use the same method to delete Ding.wav and Tada.wav. Use the CTRL key to select these files.
- Use either method to delete the folder Files. Notice that the message in the dialog box changes to the one shown below.

This is because deleting a folder also deletes the contents of the folder. The message appears even if the folder is empty, as in this case.
Method Three
- Restore and/or resize the Windows NT Explorer window OR close some folders in the Folders pane so you can see the Recycle Bin (either on the desktop or in the Folders pane).
- Select the file or folder to be deleted. We will select the file Ringin.wav from the WAV Files folder.
- Drag the file into the Recycle Bin. The recycle bin must be blue before you release the mouse button. The following dialog box will appear on your screen.

- Click on Yes.
- The file will be deleted.
- Use any method to delete the folder Manipulating Files Practise. Note that this also deletes the folder inside it (WAV Files) and its contents.
