Checking Your Spelling Word97 provides you with a spelling and grammar checker.
- Open the file Thomas and Friends.
- Select Tools/Spelling and Grammar. The spelling checker will run.
- The first spelling mistake is the word operetions for operations.

- Look at the bottom of the dialog box. The highlighted word, operations, is what Word97 thinks this word should be. In this case Word97 is correct.
- Click on the Change button. The word will be changed to operations and the next spelling mistake will appear.

- Change dislik to dislike in a similar way.
- Similarly, in the next spelling mistake change luxorious to luxurious.
- The next error is a grammatical error.

- Click on Ignore to ignore this error. If we changed it the words The Fat Controller in the sentence would no longer make sense.
- In the next error, change the word kuay to quay.
- Save your work.
- Scroll through the document. There are places where the incorrect word has been used, but because the word is spelt correctly the spell checker does not pick up these errors.
- Change clam to clay in the section on Paxman Diesel.
- Change marks to makes in the section on Cranky the Crane.
- Save and close the document.
NOTE: It is common for proper names to be treated as spelling mistakes by Word97 - names like Augusta, Thomas etc. If this is a name you use a lot you may want to Add it to your dictionary (click the Add button when the name comes up as a spelling mistake), or else just Ignore it.
