NOTE her birth certificate, obtained from the Towcester registry office in 2005 by John Lockley names her as Mary Mallard. Her mother is listed as "Harriett Chamberlain, a lacemaker" and no father is given. Her mother was working as housekeeper for Jabez Mallard, so he was presumably her father.

His father was a gamekeeper. 1861, age 13 with family at Newlands Lodge, Everton, Milford. 1871 age 23, a sapper 2 R.E. on ordinance Survey work in lodgings at Hurstbourne Tarrant. 1881 age 33, 2nd Corps Royal Engineers, with wife Jane and sons Richard aged 3 and George Newman aged 9 months at Swineshead, Huntingdonshire. 1891 age 40? as a single carpenter and joiner in lodgings at 7 St Agatha's Sq, Shoreditch,London. 1901 aged 54. Married at Camp Cottage, Wouldham, Kent a pensioner and caretaker of camp. also there was a female Frances S Haynes (single) aged 34 described as visitor and cook (Ian is unable to locate a birth record for this person).
KNOWN first from son with his mother and step-father. No record of his marriage to Louisa has been found between 1881 and 1887. In 1883 as Corporal Royal Engineers he is recorded on birth certificate as father of Thomas Richard Haynes and husband of Louisa Haynes nee Cox. in 1887 as Corporal Royal Engineers he is listed on birth cert. as father of Beatrice Haynes and husband of Louise Haynes nee Cox. Information again from Ian Green. A later note says that his first wife ended up as a patient in Broadmoor Criminal Lunatoic Asylum, and was there in the 1891 census, and again in 1901 when she was listed as "JH" and "inmate". On 10th Nov 1881 the coroner for Bedfordshire passed a verdict of wilful murder, but cutting the throat of George Newman Haynes aged 10 months by Jane Haynes his mother.
