On 29 March 1899 at Moa Flats, Inglewood,he married Fanny Rosina Simons. Walter must also have joined his brothers in development work at Inglewood, etc., but later returned to Waipipi, for a period owning the farm on the harbour end and on the right ahnd side of the Waipipi Wharf Road. This was the venue for family picnics on each New Year's day when as many of the different branches of the family a possible joined in the outing. Walter also lived in Waiuku, Pokeno and Buckland districts. Walter and Rose were keen gardeners and many delicious strawberies came off their plots. After Watler's death Rose resided for different periods at Beachlands, Papatoetoe and Howick where she died at the age of 95. She also lived at Manurewa for a long period.
