NOTE his first wife obviously died between 1876 and 1881 for in 1881 he was living with three young children and Harriet Chamberlain as a housekeeper. Harriet's daughter Minnie, was named Minnie Mallard Chamberlain and it is thought that the sister Sarah she mentioned was Sarah Ann Mallard.

In 2005 he obtained a copy of her birth certificate from the Towcester Registry office and it gives her forenames as Minnie Mallard, no father listed.
WORKHOUSE, Towcester records mention her christening and a note of finding her a position at Woodend in 1898 (from John Lockley - email May 2006). Since her mother had been in the workhouse for three years before she was born, her relationship to Joseph Mallard is questionable.
