We want to move all the picture files with names starting with the letters M to Z into the Picture Files II folder.
Windows Explorer - Moving Files
- Scroll up the Folders pane until you see the file Picture Files I.
- Click on the file name to display the contents of the file in the File pane.
Moving using Cut and Paste.
Moving A Single File
- Select the file Metal Links.bmp.
- Select Edit/Cut. The icon for the file will fuzz out.
- In the Folders pane, click on the folder name Picture Files II to open that folder in the Files pane.
- Select Edit/Paste. The file Metal Links.bmp will be moved to the folder Picture Files II.
- Click on the folder name Picture File I in the Folders pane to display the contents of the folder in the Files pane. Note that the file Metal Links.bmp is no longer present.
Moving Files That Are Not Beside Each Other
- Select the file Pinstripe.bmp.
- Hold down the CTRL key. With this key held down, click on the file Sandstone.bmp to select it.
- Release the CTRL key. Both files will be selected (highlighted in blue).
- Select Edit/Cut. The icons for the files will fuzz out.
- In the Folders pane, click on the folder name Picture Files II to open that folder in the Files pane.
- Select Edit/Paste. The files Pinstripe.bmp and Sandstone.bmp will be moved to the folder Picture Files II.
- Click on the folder name Picture File I in the Folders pane to display the contents of the folder in the Files pane. Note that the files Pinstripe.bmp and Sandstone.bmp are no longer present.
Moving A Block Of Files
- Select the file Straw Mat.bmp.
v- Hold down the SHIFT key. With this key held down, click on the file Triangles.bmp to select it.
- Release the SHIFT key. All the files from Straw Mat.bmp to Triangles.bmp inclusive will be selected (highlighted in blue).
- Select Edit/Cut. The icons for the files will fuzz out.
- In the Folders pane, click on the folder name Picture Files II to open that folder in the Files pane.
- Select Edit/Paste. The files will be moved to the folder Picture Files II.
- Click on the folder name Picture File I in the Folders pane to display the contents of the folder in the Files pane. Note that the files are no longer present.
Moving using Drag and Drop
Moving A Single File
- Select the file Red Blocks.bmp.
v- Drag the file on to the folder Picture files II in the Folders pane.
- The file will vanish from the list of files in Picture Files I the Files pane.
- Click on the folder name Picture File II in the Folders pane to display the contents of the folder in the Files pane. Note that the file Red Blocks.bmp is now present.
Moving Files That Are Not Beside Each Other
- Click on the folder name Picture File I in the Folders pane to display the contents of the folder in the Files pane. Select the file Setup.bmp.
- Hold down the CTRL key. With this key held down, click on the file Stitches.bmp to select it.
- Release the CTRL key. Both files will be selected (highlighted in blue).
- Drag the files on to the folder Picture files II in the Folders pane.
- The files will vanish from the list of files in Picture Files I in the Files pane.
- Click on the folder name Picture File II in the Folders pane to display the contents of the folder in the Files pane. Note that the files Setup.bmp and Stitches.bmp are now present.
Moving A Block Of Files
- Select the file Carved Stone.bmp.
- Hold down the SHIFT key. With this key held down, click on the file Clouds.bmp to select this block of files.
- Release the SHIFT key. All three files will be selected (highlighted in blue).
- Drag the files on to the folder Picture files II in the Folders pane.
- The files will vanish from the list of files in Picture Files I in the Files pane.
- Click on the folder name Picture File II in the Folders pane to display the contents of the folder in the Files pane. Note that the files Carved Stone.bmp, Circles.bmp and Clouds.bmp are now present.
