Copying Text

To copy text, follow the steps below.

Select the text you want to copy. Select Edit/Copy or click the Copy button on the toolbar.
Click where you want the text to go. Select Edit/Paste or click the Paste button on the toolbar.

• Open the document The Gingerbread Man that you saved earlier in the My Documents folder.
• Click on the Show/Hide button so all the paragraph markers are displayed.
• Select the following lines and the blank line between them.
  "Come here so I can eat you for my lunch."
  The gingerbread man replied
  "Run, run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man."
  And he ran away down the road.
• Click on the Copy button. Nothing will appear to have happened on the screen, but Word97 will record a copy of the selected text.
• Click at the end of the document, so your insertion point is flashing on the line below the last line in it.
• Click on the Paste button. The lines you copied will appear where your insertion point was.
• The copy of the text will remain recorded in Word97 until you copy or move another section of your document. This means that you can paste the same text in different places in your document.
• Press the Paste button twice more to put two more copies of this writing at the bottom of your document.
• Save your document. We will add to it a bit later. A copy of how it should look now is on the next page.

The Gingerbread Man

Once upon a time there lived a little old man and a little old lady. One day when the old man was working in the fields, the old lady thought she would make a gingerbread man for lunch. So she mixed up sugar and spice and lots of nice things and cut out of the dough a gingerbread man. Then she put him in the oven to bake.

While she was waiting for the gingerbread man to bake, the old lady heard a tap tap tapping at the oven door. Curious, she opened the door to see who was knocking. Out jumped the gingerbread man! When he saw the old lady, he ran away across the floor and out the door.

The old lady cried "Come here so I can eat you for my lunch."

The gingerbread man replied "Run, run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man." And he ran away down the road.

The Gingerbread Man ran down the road until he came to a cow. The cow called out to him "Come here so I can eat you for my lunch."

The gingerbread man replied "Run, run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man." And he ran away down the road. "Come here so I can eat you for my lunch."
